ENVIRONMENT

The World Environmental Day 2002 was celebrated in Nigeria on Wenesday 5th. June 2002. In Kaduna state, many activities were hosted by the Nigerian Environmental Society Kaduna State branch. There was a debate among secondary schools in the state. This year's debate was between Imperial School Kaduna and Government College Kaduna.

The topic was: "Industrialisation has done more harm than good to the environment".
This topic was proposed by Imperial School while the Government College opposed it. Imperial School won the debate at the end with 62 points while Government College had 42 points. Imperial School went home with a plaque donated by the Environmental Society.

Other activities included the inauguration of Environmental Club in Imperial School by the Environmental Society led by its President Dr. Hywa of the Kaduna State Lands and Survey Dept and the Secretary Mr. J. O. Izunwanne of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited. Mr Bulus Isa, the School's Geography master was appointed the patron while Miss Nkechi Udeobi an SS2 student was elected the President among other officers. There was also a film show and a short talk on the environment.This years celebration was rounded up with a tree-planting campaign which involved students, staff, parents and members of the Nigerian Environmental Society Kaduna State branch. This campaign attracted many people and the whole celebration ended on a high note.
